My Car Won’t Start?
If you find your car wont start and it is mechanically fine, you may have a problem with the transponder not communicating with the Engine Control Unit (ECU). If you have been told the transponder is not working or transponder needs programming we can help. Call Auto Price Locksmiths to arrange an engineer to programme a new transponder chip for your key.
How and why do I need Transponder Key Programming?
When your key no longer works or you have lost the key, it is necessary to get a new key programmed. Cheshire Auto Locksmiths are able to do this at the side of the vehicle whilst you wait. In general, the procedure is to put the car computer in ‘programming mode’. The procedure varies amongst various makes, models, and years. Once in ‘programming mode’ one or more of the fob buttons is depressed to send the digital identity code to the car’s onboard computer. The computer saves the code and the car is then taken out of ‘programming mode’.
Transponder Key Programming
Cheshire Auto Locksmiths are fully trained to programme and replace Transponder keys.
Transponder Keys are the majority type of keys now being used. This technology programming is offered by us as part of our replacement car key service.
What is a Transponder?
Many modern automobiles (especially the more expensive models) have keys with transponders hidden inside the plastic head of the key. The owner of the car may not even be aware that the transponder is there because there are no buttons to press. When a key is inserted into the ignition lock cylinder and turned, the car’s computer sends a radio signal to the transponder. Unless the transponder replies with a valid code, the computer will not allow the engine to be started. It is never possible to just cut a key without a transponder programmed.
The valid code is always a code which is uniquely programmed to your vehicle. Transponder keys have no battery; they are energized by the radio signal itself.
